High Definition Multimedia Interface [HDMI] cables are the soon to be standard cables on all audio visual products in the home. Replacing the common Scart lead, HDMI leads carry sound and pictures simultaneously using digital signals unlike the analogue Scart leads. The HDMI cable is essentially a substantial lead that can hold and produce a lot of digital information between two digital sources.

HDMI cables can also replace separate digital audio connections which should make your AV system simpler to link together and lots less messy behind the entertainment cabinet.

The Scart cable, the connection lead used in the majority of homes uses a separate socket for each which means that you are often left with a pile of cables around the television.

As you would expect HDMI cables provides high definition pictures and multi channel digital soundtracks whilst also being able to deliver some standard definition formats. This is necessary as not all television stations broadcast in HDTV.

HDMI cables can support any TV or PC video format with the use of them helping to provide a better quality of picture. This could be a potentially important factor if you’ve spent a great deal of time saving for your all singing and dancing home entertainment system and it is the focal point of your living room.

The HDMI cable gives you the flexibility to connect systems that are located a distance from each other. So if that wall mounted plasma is some way from the satellite box then the HDMI cable is going to be the best solution for enhancing all the benefits it provides.

With more and more homes now using digital entertainment systems if they are still using the Scart lead they will find that there will be several issues that can distort a sound or picture. The digital signal passing through the old cable will have to change back to analogue before changing back into a digital signal when reaching the receiving end.

With the HDMI cable this process is taken out of the equation providing a much clearer, smoother quality all around.

If you have a home that boasts a PS3, HD DVD, Blu-ray player, Sky plus HD box and more then the HDMI cables should be the lead of choice for you to experience these fully.

They come in a whole host of grades and costs that will suite every need for the home and could be the finishing touch to your homes entertainment centre.
