What follows are five things you need to know about attic black mold. Hopefully having this information will make your more aware of the potential dangers associated with this fungus. If dealt with properly attic black mold need never cause you too many problems.
1. Most attic black mold is caused by poor ventilation. This becomes a big problem during winter when there is an imbalance in temperatures between different areas of the house. The attic will be a lot colder than the rest of the house so this means that warm air will rise to this space; there will be condensation travelling along with the hot air. When this condensation reaches the cold roof a process called the ‘dew point’ begins and the condensation turns to water. Mold loves dampness so it can now easily begin to grow.
2. Bleach might not be the best way to deal with attic black mold. For decades many people have used bleach to deal with mold, but there now seems to be evidence that bleach won’t completely eradicate all mold. The jury is still out on this, but it does seem wise to use one of the chemical solutions made specifically for dealing with mold if you want to make sure you are getting rid of the problem.
3. There is research that suggests a link between attic black mold and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This is believed to happen because the mold spurs becomes airborne and ends up in the infant’s mattress. This mold then mixes with other chemicals in the mattress to create a gas that is lethal for infants.
4. Attic black mold can actually lead to all sorts of health problems for you and your family. Mold has been found to trigger asthma and other respiratory problems, cause infections, and cause allergic responses. Black mold is particularly dangerous because if it is toxic it can lead to all sorts of unpleasant side-effects.
5. In most instances attic black mold is preventable. If you take care to prevent your attic from becoming a good environment for this fungus then you will never have to worry about it. Remember that it is always much easier to deal with a problem before it becomes an issue.
Above are just five things you need to know about black mold. Hopefully this information has been of benefit to you and this will be a problem you never need to deal with.
