Vitiligo Treatment can be aimed at returning normal pigment or destroying remaining pigment. To restore the function of the skin and improve the individual’s appearance, Vitiligo is manageable though. Today, there are a number of ways to alter the appearance of vitiligo without addressing its underlying cause. Early treatment options may include the following:

• Exposure to intense ultraviolet light e.g. UVB therapy
• Medicines taken by mouth e.g trimethylpsoralen
• Medicines applied to the skin like Corticosteroid creams, Immunosuppressants or Repigmenting agents.

Skin may be grafted or removed from normal areas and placed into the areas of Vitiligo. In the future, skin pigment cells may be grown in the laboratory and used to treat affected parts. In mild cases, vitiligo pale marks can be hidden with concealing products or other cosmetic camouflage solutions. If the affected person is pale-skinned, the patches can be made less visible by avoiding sunlight. However, exposure to sunlight may also cause the melanocytes to regenerate the pigment.

Vitiligo (http://www.curevitiligooil.com/Vitiligo.html ) is a disorder with complex causes. People with vitiligo seem to inherit a genetic predisposition for the disorder. The disorder can be brought on by a variety of precipitating causes. Many people report that their vitiligo first appeared following a traumatic or stressful event. The primary symptom of the disorder is the loss of skin color. Hair growing from the affected areas also lacks color. In addition, individuals may have pigment abnormalities of the retina or iris of the eyes. Once it is diagnosed, Vitiligo treatment becomes indispensable. It is important to combat the other disorders that Vitiligo brings along.

Extreme cases of Vitiligo can be unattractive and may affect an individual’s outlook and social interactions. Sometimes the best treatment for this particular disorder is no treatment at all. Fair-skinned individuals should avoid tanning of normal skin because the no-pigment white skin of Vitiligo has no natural protection from sun. Hence, these areas are easily sunburned, and sufferers have an increased risk to skin cancer. Avoid the sun as much as you can especially when it is most intense to avoid burns.

Disguising Vitiligo with make-up, self-tanning compounds or dyes is an easy way to make it less noticeable. Cosmetics can be used to improve the appearance of the exposed white areas. Use sunscreens for the parts that can not be covered as they prevent burning of the affected areas. Skin creams and oral medications are available for severe cases. Make sure while choosing creams as they may have side effects which may make these patches undesirable. If sunscreens and cover-ups are not satisfactory, consult your doctor as he may recommend other treatment.

Autologous transplantation, depigmentation of skin and repigmentation therapies are other options for those who are severely affected. However, the choice of therapy depends on the number of pale/white patches and how widespread they are. It may also be suggested depending on the patient’s preference for treatment. Each individual with Vitiligo responds differently to therapy, and a particular treatment may not work for everyone. These therapies can be used along with surgical or medical treatments. Current treatment options are medical, surgical, and adjunctive therapies.

For some patients with sever cases, the most practical treatment for vitiligo is to remove remaining pigment from normal skin. This makes the whole body an even white color. Alternatively, some people with the disorder opt for chemical depigmentation. It is done with a chemical called monobenzylether of hydroquinone and takes about a year to complete. This process is irreversible and generally ends up with complete or mostly complete depigmentation. In Children, the Vitiligo treatment is generally done by suggesting sunscreen and cover-up measures.

Repigmentation Therapies are done through topical Corticosteroids. Creams containing corticosteroid compounds can be effective in returning pigment to small areas of affected skin. These agents can thin the skin and hence, should be used under dermatologist’s care. Besides treating the skin, attention should be paid to the psychological well-being of the individual.
