Since ancient times, the pomegranate fruit has been revered for its antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. The juice of this precious fruit has long used as a defence against harmful internal parasites, as well as for its abundant nutritional value.
Long used in folk medicine to treat inflammation, sore throat, and rheumatism in the Middle East and in India, the delicious sweet-tang of Pomegranate juice provides a substantial amount of potassium, vitmain C and niacin.
Pomegranates are known as the "jewels of winter” and in modern times, they have become known for their antioxidant capacity. The pomegranate plant is rich in antioxidants and is a natural source of both Vitamin C and Iron.
The pomegranate fruit contains an antioxidant known as polyphenol which can help to prevent premature aging. Recent research also suggests that the pomegranate may have several positive effects in maintenance of a healthy heart and also maintaining prostate health.
More than 30,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Britain each year. Last year scientists from the University of California found that drinking half a pint of pomegranate juice daily could slow the progress of prostate cancer and may help older men outlive the disease.

The study of 50 prostate cancer patients who had undergone surgery or radiotherapy, found that just one glass of the juice a day increased the stability period of the condition by almost four times. The researchers concluded that by drinking pomegranate juice every day, a man aged 65 to 70 with the disease might be able to outlive their risk of dying from the condition.

Pomegranates are known to be particularly high in antioxidants and specifically, a compound called ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is believed to help destroy cancer cells and is also thought to allow a chemical process which improves blood flow to the prostate and reduces inflammation.
