You will probably already be aware of some of the excellent apps available for the Google Android smartphone operating system, as used on the T mobile G1 and the HTC, but did you know there were a lot of cool games too? Here is a run down of some of the free games available from the Android Market:
Bubblewrap - Not so much a game as a diversion, Bubblewrap is, as the name suggests, a bubblewrap simulator, which turns your expensive, state of the art mobile phone into a small piece of fairly worthless bubble wrap packing insulation.
Using the touch screen, you can press the various bubbles in the wrap matrix, which then visibly burst, accompanied by a popping noise and a vibration from the phone. A great way to work out your frustrations and wear down your battery.
CB Blackjack - The classic card game gets the smartphone treatment with this classy version by Hudson Soft. It can be played with the touchscreen or the trackball, and is easy to control with either device.
Charlene Beachside Klondike (aka CB Klondike) - Probably the best version of Solitaire available for the Android, with great graphics and some great features. It is let down by the fact that it can only be operated with the touch screen, which can make dragging and dropping a precarious affair.
CB Reversi - The classic boardgame Othello is given a classy makeover in this Android adaptation. It can be played in one or two player mode, and also features a rather nifty helper mode, which tells you all the switches you are able to make at any given time.
Coloroid - A well executed version of the old 8-bit classic, Virus, using the touch screen to select colours, with the aim of turning the whole screen a certain colour by selecting the colour adjacent to your cursor from a list at the side of the screen. This simple but brilliantly made game is easily one of the best games currently available for the Android.
Divide and Conquer! - If you have ever played the classic mobile game Trap before, then you will know how to play Divide and Conquer, which is basically the same game, but given the touch screen smart phone treatment. The aim of the game is to segregate a certain proportion of the screen from some deadly bouncing balls by drawing lines with your finger.
